How Week One of Blaugust Went For Me

Today marks the last day of Week One of Blaugust. This week was meant to be easing into it for us newer folks while veterans shared some tips and tricks, and this week…

Well, this first week turned out to be a bit more difficult than I expected it to be.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Everyone’s new to something at some point, and I’m not holding any of the things that I found personally challenging against me. I think if I had jumped into Blaugust any other year instead of waiting until this one to do it, I would genuinely be upset with how this week went as I sit here typing this post. I might have looked at this entire blogging venture, wondered what the hell I was doing, and stopped immediately.

(Stopping, of course, would be a terrible decision considering I paid for at least a year of web hosting for this blog.)

Fortunately, though, that didn’t happen. I’m still here. I have posts for the next two weeks planned out. All I have to do is sit down and write them all so they’ll be ready to go for when it’s time for the posts to make their debut.

Unfortunately for me, I didn’t have quite as good luck figuring out content for this week. By the time Monday evening rolled around, I realized I still had absolutely no idea what I was going to post for the rest of this week. Those days turned into what essentially amounted to throwing a dart at a board to see what I thought I could get a blog post out of.

Some of it felt fairly successful. Even the post I wrote yesterday talking about why I struggle with Guild Wars 2 felt like it worked. However, none of what I posted this week was quite as connected as I had hoped it would be. As an example, I had hoped originally to make Friday’s post relate to Wednesday’s and Thursday’s (where I talked about TikTok LARPing and how to find content like it), but it didn’t actually pan out that way.

Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s hard not to feel a tiny bit disappointed when things don’t go quite according to plan.

I’m still having fun with Blaugust on the whole, though. It’s actually kind of nice knowing I can sit down every day and just write. It’s almost relaxing, in a way.

The community has been incredibly friendly and welcoming, too. Some of them even helped me troubleshoot blog issues earlier this week, which was amazing to me. I’m not really used to some communities being as friendly to new people as these folks are, but it’s hard not to feel at home there. (10/10, would absolutely recommend the Blaugust Discord to new bloggers.)

Anyway, I suppose this was a bit of an overinflated way of saying that I’m not giving up! I got through what I consider a major hurdle this week with the struggle to figure out content, and I’m okay with that.

Onwards to Week Two!
